Staying Focused and Loving the Simple Things in Life
We at Dream and Hustle had put in so much work in the first 60 days in 2012 it’s ridiculous. In our monthly report, we can testify we are working hard, hustling hard but we are also dreaming hard and setting our goals for big things. But the one thing I learned this year is how to appreciate the simple natural things in life and realize the best experience in life does not cost a dime to enjoy.
Requirements and Specifications
During January and February, me and the 30 Rotten Dissidents has been up late nights, writing documents, revising documents, building prototypes, tearing down prototypes and build again, throw out ideas that seem nice but unfeasible and work on how to deliver our goals. We created our specification and requirement documents to deliver the projects we are working on.
Writing specifications of your hustle, creating prototypes and simulations are extremely important to transform that talk into something real. I don’t care if you make something out of printing paper using papercrafting skills, you should take that next step and show yourself exactly how what you are thinking about work in the real world.
When you create documents that outline how you plan to hustle, it’s really a vote of confidence that you are serious about your goals. The next step is to execute against that document and move forward.
The Wikis are Ready For You!
I have already started publishing to the Wiki the business models and you guys can start editing and contributing. I really need you guys to understand that the reason why I blog because there are cats out there who really use the information I put out and go for theirs. If you help put content on the wiki, you can help someone out there who really needs that information to do something for themselves, or even their community or their kids or inspire others. Do not think for a second that you contributing to the wiki section will be a futile effort, it will not.
I go around in the real world and I talk to people about business models and how to get started. I get their undivided attention and they listen in the real world. Trust me, young brothas and sistas do want to learn about how to start up businesses in their own community and that is exactly what the wikis are designed to do. They don’t want to work and job and I do big figures and don’t want them working a job either – I want them doing for self.
I’m telling you cats, you are going to find the wiki stuff fun once you get started. Just go to the wiki section and start writing information. The first wiki that I wrote about is the strip bar, which is a small format alcohol serving establishment. Now here is the thing – once I get the content like the liquor license requirements, then I can copy/paste that same data in other related business models such as a lounge or nightclub business model. That’s the fun part about doing the wiki section, sharing information.
It’s Warming Up Here in Atlanta
That means we can all get to hang out, right? So that means I will be hosting some casual gatherings where we can go bowling, play kickball, throw a cookout in the park here in the ATL and even reserve a spot at one of these clubs and pop some bottles and discuss business models and entrepreneurship and have fun at the same time.
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of these snotty networking meetings where cats all formal and trying to hustle their business card and feeling awkward. No, business is your life if you are going to be about it and you should already have some fun while learning how to get things done.
Don’t worry if you not around, we are going to start ramping up the call-in show and screencasting and holding professional conferences on technology, business models and even do live discussion on topic relating to business and community matters. I spent the last month gathering up topics to talk about and look forward to posting up new events on the schedule.
A Special Announcement
In March, you guys who knew me since I was dealing with a tech startup called Fooky.com that is now defunct will see a preview of my next venture. I think I came a long way from Fooky.com and learned a lot and I believe you guys will get to see the first preview sometime in March. Anybody who read this blog and see the technology topics I talk about the most should have a clue what’s coming next from my upcoming venture.
I don’t have much to say because I’m still thinking on the hustle but I will say this one thing. What I will say is that we are going to unapologetically Black tech entrepreneurs who will do our thing worldwide and at the same time, represent and serve our communities and use technology to make brothas and sistas in the hood lives and their hustle go on.
New Orleans, St. Louis, Memphis, Houston, Oklahoma City, Newark, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Hayward, Sacramento, Jacksonville, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Mexico City and all I’m saying is this is how you got to think if you want the world to be yours to hustle in and get it. Go big and screw the local cats who think they have an opinion about you and your hustle and think they matter.
Enjoying the Good Life
You be surprised how good life can be just doing the simple things in life. One thing you cats should start doing in this economy is give up all that night clubbing, mall cruising and that expensive cable bill. There are a lot of things brothas and sistas should be doing like going to the gym, hanging out at the park, socialize at the hotel lobby area instead of all this silly stuff that cost a lot of money.
It is so much fun being able to go biking in the park, have a kite and flying it, having a picnic where the kids can play in the lawn, or just rent a boat and spend time on the water. This is the real fun stuff that quite frankly, brothas and sistas just don’t get into. I really only deal with real sistas on this level who like to go hiking up North Georgia and have no problem driving from Atlanta to Savannah on a Saturday morning and have conversation on the way.
The reason why I’m saying this is because I used to spend so much money just to hang around people who were so full of ish. Now I’m spending little money just to hang out and enjoy the day as it go by and the experience is priceless. Few weeks ago, I’m sitting outside this female screen door and we sitting on the porch talking like we teenagers. Don’t live a stressed out life spending money just to be around fake and phone people – go start enjoying the simple things in life.
