Even though it is a few days before Xmas, retailers finally realize that holding on so much inventory after the holiday season is not a good thing. So they are slashing prices dramatically on a few items they do not want to keep on the shelves at their optimal time which is before the holidays. It seems the best day to go Xmas shopping is today and tomorrow on Christmas Eve, not Black Friday.

The best gift ideal out there is the Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-Ray Player that has Netflix and Pandora streaming built-in. They have another higher line model called the 3600, which is what I bought. The Samsung BD-P1600 was selling for around $199 on Black Friday but a price war began dropping it to $149 between Frys and Wal-Mart. However, this week, Best Buy dropped the price on the 1600 model down to $129. The best thing about DVD players that can play Netflix is many independent African-American filmmakers have great movies streamed through Netflix and their movies can now find an audience. I can’t wait for Nollywood to get on board because quite honest, the Nigerian film industry run rings around African-American films and in fact, brothas and sistas are running to Nigeria to find work in their emerging film industry.

In my opinion, the Sony Webbie is hands-down the best handheld HD recording on the market. A lot of people are talking FlipVideo and they are talking about specs and other garbage instead of the most obvious benefit that Sony Webbie does that others don’t. The Sony Webbie is the only camera that let’s you film and take pictures of yourself. You cannot do this with the Flip Video and the ability to take photos of yourself with ease is the only feature that should matter with personal handheld HD recorders. If you were wondering, most of the video I shot in Tokyo was done with the Sony Webbie where I can film myself at anytime, anywhere. It will be the camera I will mainly depend on as I travel from now on. Target sells the camera for $149 but I’ve seen it advertised for $129 at places such as Wolf Camera.

I’m probably going to run out and look for some stuff at Macys, especially those trinkets they sell as Men gifts because Macys has deeply discounted those items also. But the good thing is, the retailers got smart and decided to deeply discount before Christmas instead of be caught holding the bag and have to write down heavy losses. If they would have done that same move this year, it would have caused inflation to creep in early and that’s why I’m glad the retailers came to their senses.

Macy’s is a good look, especially if you get the Macy’s card. You get discounts for using the card and coupons all the time ($25 off for every $100 spend; $15 off for every $50 spend).

As with any credit card, if you use it and pay the balance off by the next cycle, it’s an interest free loan.
